State of the Resident Report
First Month 2011

It is a pleasure to report on the activities of the Resident Friend for 2010.

GENERAL PROPERTY OVERVIEW

2010 saw several upgrades to the physical property at Canyon Road. We painted and re-designed the kitchen in the guest apartment and replaced the gas heater with a wall mounted electric heat system. This system seems to be working well especially in the below average temperature being experiences this winter. We also installed a similar wall unit to the bathroom in the ramada which previously had no permanent heat source.

While a roof leak was repaired in 2010 on the ramada in December the roof began leaking again and is currently awaiting dry weather for final repairs to be complete.

Many thanks to the Building Committee members for their generous support and guidance throughout the year.

The exterior also saw some upgrades which could not have been achieved without both the financial support of Meeting and hands on support of our Garden Committee. These include: renovation of the portal entry way, establishment of herb and veggie gardens and installation of a peace pole. We saw the benefits of the drip irrigation in a bumper crop of plums and vegetables in particular, as well as an increased water bill.

This next summer we will complete the final phase of the Master Gardener's plan by soft scaping the second seating area and final weeding and planting of the central landscape bed. The article in the New Mexican newspaper regarding our garden as one that is open to visitors did bring many Santa Feans to see our Meetinghouse and enjoy the quiet of our garden.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Our guest apartment continues to have about a 75% occupancy rate. While we did have a few cancellations due to air travel disruption we also saw an increase in guests from within the state of New Mexico, as well as some folks who were investigating relocation to the area. Our guest book highlights the variety of expressions of gratitude offered to Santa Fe Friends for maintaining this affordable retreat space.

Calls from the public for financial assistance remained level and we responded accordingly. We also helped direct clothing other goods to appropriate charities.

We have updated the web photos and descriptions-many thanks to all the photographers! As well as obtaining a new, and more secure, email address: friendsguestapartment@gmail.com.

Rental of the Meetinghouse has two groups which use our space. We will be adding a small choir who will be practicing on Thursday evenings for a $30.00 fee.

On a more personal note, I have started the spiritual practice of keeping a journal as the Resident Friend of Santa Fe Monthly Meeting for the year 2011. I continue to enjoy my part-time work as a Respite Provider with Las Cumbres Community Services and am happy to have obtained some health care coverage for two years through Santa Fe County.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen Burke
